Wedding Update: Gowns and OTD

Couture: Minette Santiago

We went to meet Minette Santiago at her place in White Plains last Saturday. She was referred to me by my friend whom she had made the gown for also. She is very easy to talk to. She asked what type of cloth we want. How long will my train be? She tried to provide me swatches to see the actual color. We had difficulty discussing the right color that I want. It’s my fault. I didn’t bring any reference. Our motif is orange. But as I said to her, I don’t want a striking orange which may blind the guests! Hahaha! Orange is a very strong color. But I don’t want to scare my guests naman. I want a deep orange or burnt orange..basta autumny ang dating! Wala syang swatches of that color but we saw one picture sa magazine and she got it na! She then asked for the length of the gowns of my entourage. Beaded or not? I said yes! Pero sa top lang. Their built? I said mix! Attention members of my entourage, let’s support one another para maachieve ang goal! Hahaha! She then made a quotation right in front of us. These are what she based her quotation from (at least from what I think): cloth, length of gowns, amount of beads, and others. She was able to give us a reasonable price naman. She needs a lead time of 4 months to make the gowns so we have 2 months to finalize our decision. There’s one more couture I’d like to see which is very popular to W@W before I make my final decision.

OTD Coordinator: Niña Aseron (Shindig Events Specialist)

Niña Aseron is my batchmate in my previous company. Among the girls in our batch, she was the first to get married. She entered the business with her friends way before she got married. I’ve been to two weddings that they coordinated. They looked professional with uniform clothes. They have 2-way radio for communications so I know that they could handle well. When she learned that I’m getting married, she got excited and told me that she has to be my coordinator. I agreed for she wants to personally coordinate my wedding not just to gain business but because we’re friends. It would be easier for me since I don’t need to build a rapport with a stranger since we’ve already clicked in the past especially on kikay stuffs. With that thought I know that she could envision everything I’d like to happen on my wedding! We took only an On-The-Day Coordinator for we still want to have personal touch on everything about our special day! Niña on the other hand, told us that she’d be more than willing to look for our supplier in case we can’t find any, for free!

Support Group: W@W

I joined weddings at work last month. It’s a very informative yahoo groups for bride-to-be’s. It’s a very active group and I get a minimum of 10 mails everyday, and that is I’m subscribed to digest and not individual mails. Hehe. It’s a nice read knowing you are all undergoing the same situations. It consists of everything from supplier reviews to rants about suppliers and a lot more. You can find here all the good suppliers that you can’t find in a bridal fair. And the support does not end there. It can also support you emotionally. I wished I had known this group before I booked some of my major suppliers. I would recommend this group to anybody who is planning to get married. There’s even a member there who is actually the groom-to-be. Fascinating! Of course, as being part of the group, you have to give something in return. It’s such a good feel when you’ve helped your co-w@wies even by recommendation only.

After the day, both of us just got more excited on our wedding day! Thanks love for being so patient and for always accompanying me in all our supplier visits.

The Heart Of Worship

It always feels great to do once again the things which has always been a part of your life..
I'm Coming back to the heart of worship!

When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless your heart

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worhip
And it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much you deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is yours
Every single breath

Halalan 2007

Today, we went out to exercise our right as a true Filipino citizen. We went out to vote for the Senatorial election. Philippine election has always been feared to be chaotic. Public schools were turned into voting polls, with public school teachers mandated to man the polls. I admire teachers who commit themselves for the benefit of all. Come to think of it, they are the most deprived workers here. They have the most noble job and yet our government can’t return the favor of providing them their worth. And still they are the ones who are exposed to this unsafe event. They’re required to be at the polls early morn for preparation. They ignore the heat of the sun to watch over the voters. And not only that, they even stay late at night to count the votes. They do all these hard works to strive for a clean election. I feel for them for one of them is my mother. We may have not much power to change how our election turns out, but we can start by giving credit to those courageous teachers. To all the teachers, we salute you!

Everything Outside the Window

Whats the great thing about my seat here in the office is that it is located beside the glass window, so everytime I need to take a breather in my work (which I badly needed these past couple of weeks), I can just turn my head and look outside the window and from there I can see many tall buildings and a lot of city's skyscrapers, which varies from old building structures to the newly created ones -- instant over-looking! Sounds boring?!? Not for me. Because these very sights brings a lot of funny and unforgettable childhood memories to me. Brace yourselves as we travel back to the time called yesterday.

The History

Rougly 20 years ago, when I was just a 7-yr old little boy who has nothing to worry in life but to play, play and play, we used to go to Saguittarius Building to attend church every Sunday. The name of the church is Light of the World Christian Fellowship, which occupied the ground floor of that building before. But when I revisited this building today, the church is no longer there. If my memory serves me right, from our house in Taytay, we would leave our house around 9:30 in the morning, then we will arrive at my grandma's (which I call 'Nanay') house in Makati around lunchtime and have our lunch there.

Super Lola

My Nanay is a great cook, aside from being a great grandma. I have lots of memories with her during my childhood days since she was the one who raised me and took care of me in the first 5 years of my life. I used to live with Nanay in Makati, while my parents were in Taytay. This is because my mom needs to recuperate after giving a CS birth to me. Nanay is my playmate back then. My parents just visited me during weekends. At night, Nanay would wake me up everytime there's a balut vendor pasing by our street bacause she knew that I love eating balut, aside from junk foods of course. Today, Nanay is in the US, but she always make sure to come back here yearly.

At the church

Back to the story. After having our delicious lunch, we will go to this church to attend the 2-5 pm service. I usually go with my Aunt leaving the house early since she has a part in the church' program, my parents will just follow afterwards. I really look forward to go church every Sunday because I enjoy attending the Sunday school class. We do a lot of activities and stuffs there but the most interesting part is the bible story-telling, its like listening to kuya Bojie of Batibot. I can still remember some of the stories even up to now. There are also snacks prepared for us at the end of the class. But most of the time, my friends and I would sneak out of the class to play outside the building. Our favorite game is 'hide and seek' and guess what - our playing area includes all buildings in Salcedo village. Hehehe. As long as you can enter the building without being noticed by the security guards and hide there, then its a valid 'hiding place'. Basements are also best candidates for a place to hide. But unlike today, before there were just few structures surrounding the Saguittarius building, mostly are vaccant lots and open spaces. If we were not playing hide and seek, we play a detective role game, breaking into different buildings, exploring every floors using the elevator or even the service staircase. The adventurous part is accomplishing those things without being caught by the security guards and of course, without being lost on our way back. And after church service, I would ask my father to buy either buttered corn or dirty ice cream on a bread to the vendors patiently waiting outside the church building. That really made my Sunday. :D And we did this every Sunday for almost 6 years.

Back to the Future

To cut the short story shorter, these are the thoughts that come to my mind everytime I look outside the window. Thoughts and memories that cannot be concealed and erased by the tall buildings and skyscapers which occupied the place that we once called our 'playground'.
